Acerca de esta escucha

[Contains Mature Themes] While the case reaches a stalemate in Ireland, a parallel investigation in France - spearheaded by Sophie’s family - moves forward. The suspect finds himself confronted with new charges and the community grapples with the case. Sophie’s son - just 15 when his mother was murdered - visits his mother’s favorite pub in West Cork and shares a pint with the last known person who saw her alive.©2018 Audible Originals, LLC (P)2018 Audible Originals, LLC

There was a lot of meandering and repetition in the storyline as if the storytellers thought the listener had a very short memory.

Nice if you are a fan a repetitive storytelling

Very well done look at the circumstances surrounding the death of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in a tiny West Cork village in 1996. Frustrating because the details are all based on unsubstantiated claims. It is literally impossible to tell what if anything discussed was true.

Not a real murder story

Incredibly well researched but like everyone else involved in this case, focuses on Ian Bailey instead of the woman whose life was stolen. Everyone seems to devalue her life. She’s like this footnote in the story, an annoying thing that got in the way of this man’s life. There’s barely any talk of her. When they asked why France would want to pursue justice, I wanted to scream. Because she mattered!

The thing is, Bailey probably did it. But because investigators prioritized closing the case over a woman’s actual life, they irrevocably bungled it. To give this man even more spotlight, a man who continues to romanticize the insane physical abuse inflicted on his own spouse that has gone unpunished, when it is all he desires is so disgusting. Sure his side of the story is important, but three years worth of interviews? Really? Who does that serve? All other interviews are framed within the context of his own. It’s such a shame because the reporting work itself is excellent, it just seems like they got hyperfocused on this man like everyone else.

What a waste of time. This podcast was purely 10 hours of small town gossip essentially leading to nothing. 3/4 of the podcast was interviewing the potential killer and went nowhere.
