The rock movements of the 1970s begin to topple over into the ‘80s, and corporate rock stamps out punk. But a new scene is born under the radar of the empty behemoths, classic rock dinosaurs, and disco ducks. Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure take the technicolor drama of the glams and turn it black and white. Post-punk with healthy dashes of new wave, The Cure then veers into creating a gothic rock movement, spawning Bauhaus, Joy Division, and the beginnings of what would for a while be called college rock, finding its audience on university radio stations, particularly in the US. The college kids who come up on this subculture form bands that vary widely, but share the artifice-free ideal of punk rock. This is punk’s third wave, reacting against the hair metal and barren pop dominating MTV and radio, just as the original punks tried to buck overwrought prog and arena rock. Absolutely love this series! It’s such a well written piece and Saint Vincent give an awesome presentation!! I really hope they come back with another round of history since there’s so much more waiting to be told. What I really loved is that it’s not a rehash of all the mainstream stories!

Love at first episode

I had no idea that when I started to listen to this podcast, that it would be exactly what I needed to hear. I love music, history, and rock especially. This podcast gave me the best of all these worlds. It reintroduced me to some great artists and songs. It invigorated my passion for rock and made me search for more connections in music in my past. I hope they make more podcasts like this!

Annie Clark is a perfect fit...

There's quite a few people that could be up to the task, and narrate a good selection of anecdotes telling the story of Rock music.
After listening to Annie Clark do it, it's really hard to think of someone doing it better. She is a perfect fit, and is backed up by top notch writing and production.

Let’s Rock and Roll

Highly recommend interesting informative and totally entertaining history of Rock music. Excellent narration and music tracks enhance the audiobook. Hopefully a sequel will be offered in the future.

I’m an old timer

people of a certain age think they know a whole lot. I thought this may bore me but it didn’t. lots of new information and historical aspects that I was interested in and didn’t know about before.
