Today we’re discussing a film that reminds us that words can be weapons, shields, and bridges. The Great Debaters isn’t just a film—it’s a blueprint.” My guest is Speech Coach, Fred Douse. Fred is the Director of Forensics—Speech at Ben Davis High School. He is a 34 year veteran coach who specializes in interpretation events. He has coached students as an assistant coach at his alma mater Snider High School to State and National success. While at Ben Davis, Fred has coached students to state championships as well as NSDA national finalists in Drama and Oratory. Under his guidance in 2017, Ben Davis High School earned the NSDA School of Excellence award ranking the school among the top 20 schools in speech in the Nation. He is a member of the IHSFA Hall of Fame (Class of 2017) and a former member of the ISSDA Board of Directors and a former NSDA Hoosier Heartland District Chair. His motto for his students is “Crash into your greatness.”
