Disappointing

This podcast was recommended by someone in a book discussion group, so I had high hopes that this would actually be a discussion of the book. No. This is 3 friends who just talk over each other about their favorite parts of the book, filled with tons of cuss words.

Just a bunch of friends talking

I thought it would be fun to listen to a recap but the first 20 minutes of the episode was them just going from topic to topic saying what surprised them and why they had gotten right… only talked about the robin/strike relationship and didn’t talk at all about the case or plot.

This is not a typical episode

To the (potential) negative reviewers: If you're disappointed because this is your first Strike and Ellacott Files episode ever and you got a chaotic chat instead of in-depth literary analysis, don't give up, listen to any other episode. Most episodes are lots of literary analysis, comparing with other books, dissecting phrases and tropes and symbolism etc. (with a healthy dose of jokes and Strike admiration). This particular episode is crazy because it's an outpour of first reactions after finishing a long-awaited book (and enjoyable for long-term listeners). In most episodes, they painstakingly analyse specific chapters in an intelligent and mostly organized way. If you want in-detail literary analysis, put on a different episode, you might love it.
