In Malachi’s day the priesthood was broken, polluted offerings were broken, place of worship was broken, everything seemed to be broken. It would appear that God’s plan had failed and all was broken, but looking forward to Christ we find God’s original plan: Jesus, the perfect priest, Jesus the perfect offering, and Jesus, the temple Himself. Departing words are always important, and it is no different with God. As we begin the book of Malachi, we have some last words of God to His people before 400 years of no written word. Nothing will be written from God until John the Baptist appears preparing the way for Jesus.
