Ever wonder why famous historical figures like Aaron Burr, George McClellan, Douglas MacArthur, Cato the Younger, Julius Caesar, and many others fell from the great heights to which they had ascended to end up in death or disgrace?

Douchebags of History explores the self-destructive tendencies of historical figures who lose everything while the prize of a lifetime is in reach. We delve into the self-destructive tendencies of these people, and how these qualities kept them from achieving their lifelong dreams, often costing them a treasured place in history.

History is full of douchebags, and we'll keep finding them.

Can a temper tantrum change history?

Mary Todd Lincoln was pretty jealous of her husband. On a trip to General Grant's headquarters near the end of the Civil War, Mary lost her cool at one of the general's wives for riding in review next to the President instead of her and went on a rage that had dire consequences for the Lincolns.

    May 7 2021

In our first ever podcast episode, we talk about what it means to be a douchebag of history, and how we define it in this context.

We cover four examples of historical figures who made it almost all the way to the top but failed within sight of their goal. Why? Maybe it's they were douchebags. We also offer as counterpoints four of their contemporaries who succeeded where they failed, and we look forward to our first full episode, in which a First Lady's temper tantrum just maybe changed the course of American history.
