Do Hippos Eat Meat?

Do hippos eat meat? The answer is yes — but rarely, and under specific circumstances. Although it is not a regular part of their diet, hippos have been observed feeding on carrion (dead animals) and even engaging in acts of predation and cannibalism. These events are not common but have been documented across various African habitats. Hippos have been seen feeding on the carcasses of wildebeests, impalas, and even other hippos.
