ESPN’s newest 30 for 30 documentary, The Philly Special, focuses on the play that enabled the Philadelphia Eagles to score an upset win over the Patriots for their first Super Bowl title in 2018. The Philly Special — as it became known — has been immortalized on t-shirts, tattoos, murals, statues and much more. More than just a play, it became a rallying cry that captured the spirit and resilience of Philadelphia. The Philly Special was directed by our guest, 5-time Emmy Award winner Shannon Furman who directed ten seasons of HBO’s Hard Knocks. Shannon chats about the new film and how The Philly Special became a cultural symbol of Philadelphia’s underdog spirit. Airs February 6th at 9pm (ET/PT) on ESPN and the ESPN app.
