Definitions for Things I Mentioned:
Local Media Playback: Playing media that is already stored locally. USB Drive Playback: Some Roku, Fire TV, and Apple TV models (or accessories) have a USB port or an adapter option. You can load movies, music, or photos onto a USB flash drive or external hard drive and play them directly through a Media Player app on the device. No internet is needed because the media files are physically plugged into the device.
Local Network Streaming (No Internet Required): You can stream content from another device on your local Wi-Fi network even if that network is not connected to the internet. Screen Mirroring/Casting: You can use your phone, tablet, or laptop to mirror its screen or cast a downloaded video to the streaming stick. Technologies like AirPlay (for Apple TV) or Wi-Fi Direct/Miracast (for Roku/Fire Stick) establish a direct connection between your phone and the stick using your Wi-Fi router as a bridge, but without routing traffic out to the web. Local Media Server (Plex/Kodi): If you have a computer or hard drive running a local media server (like Plex or Kodi) on your Wi-Fi network, the streaming stick can connect to that server and stream the files it hosts, as long as both devices are on the same local network.
