Maybe you’re the responsible one, the one running their finances, dealing with illness, or trying to figure out what their future will look like. It’s no wonder you’re exhausted. You’ve added yet another thing to manage, handle, and worry about.
The things we’re dealing with when it comes to our parents are completely new territory. The roles have reversed. They need us more than we need them in many ways. A lot of you worry about your parents and feel responsible for helping or being there more than you realistically can or even want to. Then the guilt sets in.
Maybe you don’t see your parents as often as you’d like. Maybe you’re always the one handling everything while your siblings are a no-show. Or maybe you don’t have much of a relationship with them at all and you’ve realized that the next time you see them, it might not be under good circumstances.
So today, let’s unpack all of it, because this is something so many of us are dealing with and one that we need help navigating, whether it’s the guilt, worry, stress, fear, or resentment.
