Day 110: David and Goliath (2025)

  • Resumen

  • Today we read the epic story of how David defeats Goliath, a giant Philistine warrior. Fr. Mike points out that David's heroic courage in this battle came from David's faithfulness to God and to the small tasks entrusted to him as a shepherd. We learn that when we are faithful and courageous in small matters, we can face the giants in our bigger battles. Today's readings are 1 Samuel 17 and Psalm 12. Priest makes the Bible exciting!

Father Mike creates enthusiasm for the Word of God. He explains the Old Testament as well as any protestant on earth does--and he reminds me of perhaps the best Bible teacher who ever lived. Yes, I mean:
u
Chuck Smith, who founded Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa CA. (Chuck was headlined in Newsweek as one of the founders of the Jesus Movement in the 60s and 70s as he baptized thousands in the ocean.)
Like Pastor Chuck, Father Mike explains ancient customs and hidden agendas of the rulers.
He makes history exciting.
Father Mike first reads the chapter without interuption and then explains what's going on afterwards. (Better than a Catholic homily because he explains the history of it all and the key players in the chapter as well as their motives.)

if you listen for an entire year you'll never find it boring and then you can actually tell everyone that you've "read" the Bible from cover to cover!
My faith has increased and my desire for holiness has arisen in me --to respect myself, to respect others and allow God to use me as a humble vessel while I breathe on this good earth. I'm more motivated to go to
confession and Mass and pray 4 others.
God's Word transforms me as I listen to Father Mike read it.

I'm 75 and don't see well so I thank Audible for adding Father Mike freely.
His desire to spread God's Word to Catholics has revolutionized the face of Catholicism and changed me as well!
Thank you Audibe 💙 Amen!
