Puerto Rico's performance in the World Baseball Classic allowed the island's baseball to rise in the world rankings. The World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) released a new update to the World Baseball Rankings after the fifth edition of the World Baseball Classic. Puerto Rico received a significant boost after their appearance in the tournament.
