Visionary Queen Angela sit down and have conversation with our AUTHOR OF THE WEEK July 27 through August 2nd ROLANDA PYLEOur Visionary sat down and chatted with Rolanda and it went like this…Queen Angela asked…Can you share a little about your journey—what inspired you to become both a social worker and an author? As a young girl, all I knew is that I wanted to help people. I was quiet and introverted as a child, but loved writing. I always preferred writing to talking. My 8th grade teacher told me that I had a creative writing ability and that stuck with me. So I kept journals and then began to write poetry and short stories. I also became a social worker and worked in several aspects in the field.Queen Angela asked…How does your background in social work influence the themes and messages in your writing, especially your children’s books?I have written poems and articles about a lot of what I have seen in my career. My children's book is about a child who has to go live with her grandmother. One of the aspects of the field I worked is grandparents raising grandchildren. I also have a poem dedicated to those grandparents and have written poems about growing older, family issues, tribute to Veterans, etc.Queen Angela asked…What is the most rewarding part of writing poetry for you, and how do you hope your poems impact your readers? For me the most rewarding part of writing poetry is that I get to express the way I feel. I really feel that I have a lot to say and wouldn't get to say it in any other way. The other thing about writing for me is that it is like leaving a legacy. My poems will outlive me and hopefully touch and impact readers for generations to come. I believe and I have heard that in every poem I write that someone somewhere can identify with it and needs it.Queen Angela asked…Can you tell us about a particular child or family whose story inspired one of your books or poems (without revealing personal details)? That's easy, because that particular child is me and my family. I grew in a home with my siblings and my dad. My mother left when I was toddler, and my paternal grandmother stepped in to help my dad raise us. But I never felt complete and knew that somehow through my own experience that I wanted to help others. It wasn't until I read the required reading in Junior High, the book, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou that I felt healed because I found someone else who had lived through a similar situation. That's why I wrote my children's book, I wanted younger children to read it and to identify with it.Queen Angela asked…What are some of the most common challenges you see children and families face today, and how do your books address or shine a light on these issues?Hunger, Homelessness, Being raised by someone other than your parent, sickness, illness and disease, fear, young black men being killed, rejection, hopeless....and the list goes on. My 2 poetry books address these issues and so much more through my poems. My devotional is a compilation, where authors tell their stories, and I'm sure folks can relate. And the children's book is for children who go to live with a relative.Queen Angela asked…As a writer of inspirational, where do you find your hope and motivation, especially on difficult days?I find motivation through my time of devotion with God and from hearing from others about what they went through and how they overcame. I believe, that no matter what I'm going through, if God brought me through it in the past, He will again.Queen Angela asked…What is your favorite poem or children's story you’ve written, and why does it hold a special place in your heart?Well, I told you about my children's book, "Grandma's Hands " already. One of my favorite poems is my poem "FINALLY". I wrote it as I was publishing my first book. For years, folks told me I should publish my poems and after many years, I "finally " did. Another favorite is "Harlem". I was born in Harlem, my parents met and both loved Harlem along with other family members. When my family came up here from South Carolina and from Barbados via Boston, they all ended up in Harlem. So along with the rich culture of Harlem, it holds a special place for me because of that.Queen Angela asked…How do you balance your career in social work with your creative writing pursuits?I'm retired from full time work, and only do consultant work, so I have much more time to focus on my creative writing pursuits.Queen Angela asked… What advice would you give to aspiring writers, especially those who want to tell stories that uplift and inspire?I would advise someone early in their journey to hang in there. First it is always good to get with others, who can advise, instruct and mentor you. So join an author’s group or get with other authors. I would also say to seek and know what direction you want to go in. Do you want to publish a book or write songs or write plays or just tell your story ...

  • DAILY DEVOTION WITH QUEEN ANGELA Day 19 Embracing Joy Scripture Focus Nehemiah 810-…for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
    Jul 19 2025
Day 19: Embracing JoyScripture Focus: Nehemiah 8:10"…for the joy of the LORD is your strength."AffirmationThe joy of the Lord is my strength.INTROIn a world that often equates joy with fleeting happiness and ideal circumstances, God invites us to discover a deeper, unshakable joy that comes from Him alone. Joy is not just an emotion—it is a spiritual force, a gift that sustains us even when life feels overwhelming. Today, we embrace the truth that joy is found in God, and that His joy empowers us to rise above our challenges.Backstory: Understanding Nehemiah 8:10Nehemiah 8:10 comes at a significant moment in the history of God’s people. The Israelites had just returned to Jerusalem from exile, and under Nehemiah’s leadership, they had successfully rebuilt the walls of the city against tremendous opposition. However, physical restoration was just the beginning—their spiritual restoration was still needed. On this day, all the people gathered as Ezra the scribe read the Law of Moses to them. As they heard God’s word, conviction swept over them and they began to weep, realizing how far they had strayed from God. But Nehemiah, along with Ezra and the Levites, told them not to mourn or weep, for this day was holy to the Lord. Instead, they were encouraged to celebrate—a festival of joy—because “the joy of the Lord is your strength.” The leaders assured the people that God’s joy, not their shame, would be their sustaining power as they began anew. This scripture reminds us that joy isn’t just about feeling good—it’s a divine strength that enables us to move forward, even when we are broken or afraid. Thanks for reading Da Visionary Queen Angela Thomas Smith ! Joy is Rooted in God’s PresencePsalm 16:11: You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. True joy doesn’t depend on our circumstances or emotions; it thrives in God’s presence. When we spend time with Him, meditating on His word or simply opening our hearts in worship, we are filled with a joy that is real, lasting, and soul-satisfying.2. Joy Gives Us Spiritual StrengthNehemiah 8:10: “...for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” When Nehemiah addressed the weary Israelites, he reminded them that their strength did not come from themselves, but from God’s joy. This same principle applies to us: Joy from the Lord fuels our endurance, uplifts our spirits, and empowers us to persevere through every trial.3. Joy is a Witness to a Watching WorldRomans 15:13: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Our joy is a testament to God’s goodness—even in hard seasons. When we radiate joy through faith and hope, those around us see something supernatural at work, drawing them closer to the source of our strength. Thanks for reading Da Visionary Queen Angela Thomas Smith ! This post is public so feel free to share it.Share3 Ways to Apply This Lesson TODAY1. Cultivate Joy through WorshipSet aside intentional time today—whether it’s five minutes or an hour—to worship God. Listen to uplifting music, sing, or simply sit quietly in awe of who He is. Worship creates an atmosphere for God’s presence and opens your heart to renewed joy.2. Choose Gratitude in Every SituationWhatever your circumstances, find at least three things for which you are grateful and thank God for them specifically. Gratitude refocuses your mind on God’s goodness and ignites deeper joy.3. Spread Joy to OthersLook for opportunities to share joy with someone else—a smile, a word of encouragement, or a simple prayer. Acts of kindness don’t just bless others—they multiply joy in your own life and expand God’s kingdom.EMPOWERING WORD FOR TODAYToday, remember you are not meant to carry the weight of the world alone. God’s joy is available and abundant for you—no matter how you feel or what you face. When the world presses in, let His joy rise up and give you supernatural strength. You have permission to release every heaviness and to embrace the lightness that comes from God’s presence.Leave a commentWord of the Day:RadiateSpeak this word into and over your life, declaring:"Today, I choose to radiate the joy of the Lord. The joy of the Lord is my strength, and today, I radiate His goodness everywhere I go."Carry this word in your heart all day long, and let God’s joy be the strength that empowers, uplifts, and shines through you.Powerful CloseAs you move forward today—and every day—declare boldly, “The joy of the Lord is my strength!” Let God’s joy rise within you, ...

  • DAILY DEVOTION WITH QUEEN ANGELA DAY 18 LOVE IN ACTION 1 JOHN 318
    Jul 18 2025
DAY 18: LOVE IN ACTIONScripture: 1 John 3:18 New International Version (NIV):Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.King James Version (KJV):My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.English Standard Version (ESV):Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.New Living Translation (NLT):Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.Meaning: This verse encourages believers to express love not just in what they say, but through their actions and sincerity. True Christian love is demonstrated through what we do for others, not just with kind words.Affirmation: I demonstrate love through my actions.Word of the Day: KindnessLet kindness guide your actions today. One small, intentional act can create a ripple effect—touching lives in ways you may never see. Be the reason someone believes in God’s love in action!IntroductionWelcome to Day 18 of our devotional journey! Today’s focus is a transformative truth: love is much more than just words; it is fully realized in our actions. In a world full of empty promises and fleeting affection, Jesus calls us to love in a way that makes a tangible difference. Let’s explore how we can move from saying “I love you” to showing “I love you”—every single day.Backstory: The Foundation (1 John 3:18)“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” — 1 John 3:18 (NIV)John, known as the apostle of love, writes these words to an early church wrestling with how to live out their faith in practical terms. He knew that love isn’t just a sentiment. In a time when the world was mostly hostile to Christians, he urged believers not to simply talk about love, but to live it—meeting practical needs, showing kindness, and serving sacrificially.Powerful Detailed LessonIt’s easy to say “I love you,” but genuine love is proven by what we do. Jesus was not content with giving motivational talks—He demonstrated love with every step, from feeding the hungry (Mark 6:34-44), to washing the disciples’ feet (John 13:12-15), to laying down His life for us all (John 15:12-13). The world sees our faith most clearly not when we preach, but when we practice.James underscores this truth: "Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?" — James 2:15-16 (NIV)If our actions don’t match our words, our love is hollow. Real love enters messy situations, rolls up its sleeves, and gets involved.3 Powerful Detailed TakeawaysDive Deeper: 3 Transformative Lessons on Love1. Authentic Love Demands More than Words Key Verse: “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:18) True love isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we do. This lesson challenges us to move beyond well-meaning words and step into genuine, practical service. Reflect: How can you put love into action for someone in need this week?2. Love is Our Loudest Witness Key Verse: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35) The world recognizes Jesus through our acts of love. Our kindness and unity become unmistakable proof of our faith. Pause and consider: What do your actions say about your faith to those watching? How can you show Christ’s love more boldly?3. Compassion Creates Lasting Change Key Verse: “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” (1 John 3:17) When we open our hands and hearts to others, God works in and through us—transforming both the giver and the receiver. Take a moment to reflect: Where are opportunities around you to be an agent of God’s compassion today?Let these lessons sink in. Take time to meditate on these truths and ask, “How can I make love visible in my life?” For further study, read the full passages and journal about ways you can embody authentic, Christ-like love each day.3 Powerful How to ApplyRadically Meet Needs—TodayDon’t wait for a perfect moment—open your eyes to the needs right in front of you. Is there a neighbor struggling with groceries? A coworker feeling invisible? Step up and meet that need wholeheartedly. Bring a homemade meal to a family going through crisis. Offer a listening ear—or even just a smile—to someone weighed down by stress. When you respond to these everyday opportunities with humility and generosity, you become a living extension of Jesus’ love. Remember His promise: “Give, and it will be given to you.” (Luke 6:38) What you sow in kindness returns in ways you can’t imagine.2. Serve Where It Hurts—Give Until It CostsTrue service isn’t about convenience—it’s about...

  • 7/17/25 DAILY DEVOTION WITH QUEEN ANGELA | DAY 17: USING OUR GIFTS-1 PETER 4:10
    Jul 17 2025
DAY 17: USING YOUR GIFTScripture: 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."Powerful Intro:Imagine a world where each person fully embraced their talents and used them—unashamedly, unapologetically—for good. Picture the transformation in your family, your community, your church, even the world if everyone stepped into their unique calling. What if today you realized that your gifts—no matter how ordinary they may seem—are extraordinary tools in the hands of God? Today is the day to unwrap what God has given you and let the world be blessed by your divine fingerprint.Backstory of the Scripture:The apostle Peter wrote this letter to encourage believers who were experiencing hardship, reminding them of their purpose and responsibility as members of God’s family. With persecution looming, Peter insists that the church use its gifts to serve one another selflessly. In doing so, they would reveal God’s grace in practical, powerful ways. He wanted Christians not to hide their talents, but to steward them faithfully for the strength and unity of the body of Christ.Lesson: Demonstrating 1 Peter 4:10You are uniquely created, intentionally gifted, and purposefully placed. 1 Peter 4:10 is not just a suggestion—it’s a calling. God has deposited divine gifts and abilities in each and every one of us. You may be a great listener, a wise organizer, a talented artist, or a peacemaker. Your gift may be encouragement, hospitality, teaching, or faith—but whatever it is, it is intended not solely for your benefit but to bless others and reflect God’s goodness. When you use your gifts in service to others, you become a living channel of God’s grace. Your willingness multiplies blessings. Sometimes, we overlook our abilities, comparing ourselves to others or minimizing what God has placed in us. But God calls you to honor your gift, to nurture it, and to use it for His glory. When we serve, we proclaim loudly: "Here I am, Lord—use me for Your purpose!"3 Powerful Takeaways:1. Your Gift is Unique and PurposefulRomans 12:6 – "We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us."God’s design is intentional. He is the master craftsman who intricately forms each person with unique gifts, perspectives, and callings. There has never been, nor will there ever be, another you. Your life is the only “you-shaped” reflection of God’s creativity in all of human history.God’s grace is the divine power behind your gift. He didn’t look at you and randomly assign an ability; instead, He knit your gifts and passions together to fit your purpose and your placement in His greater plan. Your upbringing, challenges, victories, and even your quirks are woven into your gift’s effectiveness.Going Deeper: When you compare yourself to others, you slight the divine intention God had for creating you. Instead, celebrate that your gift, no matter how big or small it seems, fills a unique gap in God’s Kingdom that no one else can fill.2. Gifts are Meant to Serve OthersMatthew 5:16 – "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."Your gifts are not trophies to sit on a shelf—they are tools meant to impact the world. When God gave you a gift, He put it in your hands not for your glory, but for the good of those around you. Every act of service, every word of encouragement, every kindness or solution you bring using your gift, is like lighting a candle in the darkness for someone else. The world grows brighter each time you use your gift generously. Serving shifts your perspective from “me-centered” to “God and others-centered.” In that shift, your gift finds its highest purpose and deepest fulfillment.Going Deeper: Ask yourself: Who is blessed when I use my gift? Who misses out if I don’t? Realize that someone, somewhere, is waiting for what only you can offer.3. Using Your Gift Honors GodColossians 3:23-24 – "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…It is the Lord Christ you are serving."When you use your talents wholeheartedly, you turn everyday actions into an act of worship. God isn’t looking for perfection—He delights in your willingness and faithfulness. Every moment you dedicate your time, skill, or resources in service, God receives it as an offering. When you steward your gifts well—developing, sharing, and growing them—you give God the ultimate glory. You become a living witness to His goodness and faithfulness. People will see God’s fingerprints in your life, and He is magnified through your obedience.Going Deeper: Think about the legacy you want to leave. When others remember you, let it be that your gifts pointed them to a God who loves, equips, and empowers His children.Let these truths settle in your spirit:- Your gifting shows you were designed...
