Instead of giving up, Ruth decided to chop up a Nestlé semi-sweet chocolate bar and put the little pieces into her cookie dough, thinking they would melt. But when the cookies came out of the oven, the chocolate hadn't melted completely, leaving delicious pockets of chocolate!

    These accidental cookies, which Ruth called "Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookies," became incredibly popular and are now loved all over the world. So, the next time you eat a chocolate chip cookie, remember that it all started with a happy kitchen surprise!
