  • Nikki VanderHeyden
    Sep 28 2025

In May 2016, thirty-one-year-old mother of three, Nicole VanderHeyden, was found dead. It was apparent she had been murdered due to the state of her injuries. Nicole, who went by Nikki, disappeared after a night out with her boyfriend and other friends. The authorities immediately began looking at Nikki's boyfriend.

Join Mike and Morf as they discuss the murder of Nikki VanderHeyden. Nikki's boyfriend, Douglass Detrie, could have very well ended up spending the rest of his life in prison. The Fitbit he was wearing told the story of his whereabouts the night Nikki was murdered. This allowed the police to shift focus and find the real killer.

  • Breaking News: Robert Eugene Brashers identified as killer in Austin Yogurt Shop Murders
    Sep 27 2025

Major breaking news here as serial killer Robert Eugene Brashers has been identified as being responsible for the infamous quadruple Yogurt Shop murder in December, 1991 in Austin, TX.

Killed were Jennifer Harbison, and Eliza Thomas who were employees of the 'I Can't Believe it's Yogurt' shop in Austin, along with Jennifer's sister Sarah Harbison, and her friend Amy Ayers who were in the shop in order to get a ride home with Jennifer after closing. All four girls were shot in the head execution style and at least one of them was raped. After they were killed, the shop was set on fire to cover up the crime and destroy evidence.

Robert Eugene Brashers was a known rapist and serial killer who roamed from state to state. Among many twisted crimes, We know Brashers was responsible for the murders of Genevieve "Jenny" Zitricki in Greenville, SC in 1990, as well as that of mother and daughter Sherri and Megan Scherer in Portageville, Missouri in 1998. We did a full episode on Brashers way back in 2018; season 4 episode 5. You can listen to that full episode here.

This is a breaking news story and the investigation is ongoing.

This is about the 4th story I have listened too. They definitely do their homework. I will be continuing to listen to their great stories. Great job guys.

I believe I’m hooked now.

Intriguing

closest a listener can get to being inside the killers mind without actually crawling in there.

LOVE the detail.

not sure if you guys read the comments but one suggestion Morf... you sound like you are reading an 8th grade report sometimes. maybe add a little more personality to your facts... when your interviewing your organic and its fluid and you can tell you're engaged. when going over past crimes or the background you're very monotone and like you don't want to be there.

but really you guys. you do a fabulous job.

wow... just wow

I love the great writing and reporting of this show. Mike F has a great voice for radio (or podcasts) and I really enjoy listening to him. the Mikes have done great research and getting to hear it much more in-depth than can be done on TCATT is great.

In Depth Reporting of True Crime

I've tried to listen to this podcast at different times, hoping it got, somehow, better. But episode one is the same as the most recent. Their reading voice is terrible. There's no natural flow to it. It's like every period he comes to is a welcome surprise.
This is NOT my kind of podcast.

I just couldn't take it......,

After listening to both TCATT and TCATT Unsolved we were very excited to take the deep dive into Criminology, but after ten or so episodes find it really suffers from the lack of repartee between the two hosts. It's like they're reading from scripts from different rooms. I find I'm constantly rewinding because it just does not hold my attention as the other two podcasts do. I plan to push forward as there are 160 + episodes to go and hope somewhere along the line they have managed to improve on what is now a very mediocre presentation. Gibby, you are truly missed!

Wanted to like it!
