Converge, Week 2

Day 5:
A Legacy Worth Following

Devotional
Will my children follow Jesus because of the example I’ve set, or will they have to overcome my poor example to find faith? This question cuts to the heart of what it means to build spiritual infrastructure that lasts. We don’t want our children to succeed in spite of us – we want them to succeed because of the foundation we’ve laid. Building a legacy worth following requires more than good intentions. It demands consistent faithfulness in the small things, intentional investment in spiritual disciplines, and a commitment to the local church that demonstrates its value to the next generation. When children see their parents prioritizing worship, serving others, and investing in ministry, they learn that following Jesus is worth their lives. When we focus on building a legacy for others, we become more like Christ ourselves. Every act of faithfulness, every investment in the church, every moment spent in discipleship shapes our own character while building something that will outlast us. Our children don’t need perfect parents; they need faithful ones. They need to see adults who take their relationship with God seriously, who invest in the church consistently, and who live as though Jesus is Lord of their lives. The statistics about declining faith in America are sobering, but they don’t have to define our families or our churches. When we commit to building spiritual infrastructure we demonstrate God’s faithfulness.
Bible Verse
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous. - Proverbs 13:22
Reflection Question
What specific changes could you make in your daily life and priorities to ensure your children will want to follow Jesus because of the example you’re setting?
Quote
“I don’t want our kids to follow Jesus in spite of the poor example we left. I don’t want my kids to follow Jesus in spite of what I’ve invested my life in. I want my kids to follow Jesus because of what I invested my life in.”
Prayer
Lord, help me to live in such a way that my children and their children will be drawn to You through my example. Amen
