Have you ever scrolled through Pinterest and thought "that table scape/ party is perfect, I can never do that!" and with that thought leaves every thought of hosting anyone ever? Because... if it isn't that pretty no one will want to come.... right?? WRONG!! That is a lie from the devil himself friend and I need you to perk up and see that!
Hosting people in our homes has become this glamorized, expensive production that it was never meant to be. It's simple but us humans tend to overcomplicate things. That is exactly why I am giddy to introduce you to Abby Kuykendall (Kirk-in-doll). Her new book is all about true hospitality and not that overwhelming stuff. She wants us to be so into the conversation that we forget all about the biscuits in the oven. Just let them burn! When you are in those conversations that make you feel seen, heard and understood... nothing else matters!
Abby Turner Kuykendall is a writer, home cook, and founder of A Table Top Affair. After years of singleness and spiritual growth, she discovered the power of the table in building God-centered community. Her first cookbook, The Living Table, reflects that journey. Abby lives in northwest Arkansas with her husband, Kyle, and their son, John Maverick.
Key Takeaways:
- It’s not about your food, your house or the perfect table scape, it’s about connection & conversation
- Hospitality is a command in scripture, no one gets a pass
- Focus on the substance behind the hosting
- There is a difference between entertaining and hospitality
- When we are intentional about making connections with others it becomes easier over time
- It doesn’t start with big groups, hosting begins with one-on-one connections and vulnerability
