  • Tani Gill - The Importance of Minimizing Friction and Giving Back to Society (Part 2) | #EP34
    Jun 2 2024

Welcome to Compassiviste Dialogues. I'm Ali, your host, and my mission with this podcast is to shed light on critical social and environmental issues worldwide, exploring avenues for positive change.

In this episode, we have the honor of welcoming a true powerhouse, Tani Gill. Toni wears many hats - she's a choreographer, producer, visiting UN lecturer, Cambridge lecturer, and a UNESCO member. On top of that, she's the founding director of the nonprofit Tani Gill Dance Academy in Senegal, where she channels her philanthropic spirit.

    ABOUT GUEST:

Tani Gill has been passionate about film and performing arts since childhood. While studying film and animation, she worked on the set of Gladiator.

In 2018, she founded TGDC Production House. Overcoming ageism, she became the first Indian classical dancer registered with the British Ballet Organization in London.

Specializing in psychology and mental health, Tani has performed worldwide, including at the Acropolis in Greece to honor WW2 soldiers like her grandfather.

TGDC produces theater and films, focusing on conservation and mental health. Her work, recognized by UNESCO and BBC Wildlife magazine, often addresses social issues.

Mentored by Dennis Goldsmith, she runs a life drawing program at Kings College Cambridge. Her collaboration with Nabil Ali led to Jupiter's Ghost, which she wrote and directed. The film version will be shown at the Edinburgh Fringe, Asian Independent Film Festival 2024, and Cambridge University Botanical Gardens.

Tani's innovative work challenges social norms, blending genres in a fresh, relevant, and unapologetic style.

    KEY NOTES:

    * Education is a powerful tool for empowering underprivileged children and breaking the cycle of poverty. * Wealth should be used as a conductor to minimize friction and create positive change in the world. * Listening to meaningful voices and offering support and opportunities can make a significant difference in marginalized communities. * The arts play a crucial role in initiating change and addressing mental health issues. * Authenticity and experience hold more weight than theory when it comes to understanding and addressing complex issues.
