History of December To RememberThe December to Remember Special Event has been in existence for 30 years. The concept and the ideal was developed and sponsored by radio station V101.5 and co-sponsored by local Greek Organizations in partnership with the Clara White Mission. The Clara White Mission has been responsible for identifying and screening up to six families for their personal stories to be read over the radio on V101.5.

The stories are read until Christmas, starting after the Thanksgiving Holiday. On a designated date the Christmas Party is scheduled in the community for all the family members to attend, and Christmas gifts are distributed with a special luncheon, and each child, parent(s), and or caregiver is provided with their Christmas “Wish List” items, their own personal Santa Claus at the party, and an afternoon filled with holiday cheer and a surprise financial gift for each family, presented by the Title and or Co-Title Corporate Sponsor.Radio Station V101.5, Clara White Mission, and over 150 local Greek Sororities and Fraternities, together host the Annual December to Remember Christmas Party, dedicated to lifting the spirits of deserving families.Every year applications are submitted by non-profits, local schools, and or community organizations to the Clara White Mission for consideration.Over 565 individuals have been impacted to date and this represents over 206 families that have received holiday support for over 30 years. In addition, several parents that have been helped by the December to Remember, have come back and given back to the new families, by volunteering and or donating to the event.

The Legacy of Mike FreelandThe mission of Mike’s life began when he became employed by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department as a Firefighter. He made this career decision after observing the dedication of his uncle, fireman George Freeland IV. Above all, Mike was dedicated to helping others in and around his community. This profession gave him the rights of passage to be a modern-day hero, as would show true through his unwavering courage and commitment to serve. The purpose of Mike’s time on earth was shown to his community and to the world as he sacrificed his own life for the lives of others.

On November 11, 2021 while in the line of duty, Engineer Michael Lee Freeland went home to be with the Lord. The Mike Freeland Foundation was founded by Mike’s mother, Mrs. Terona Feacher, after his passing. With the financial support from our community, through this race and other fundraising to come, The Mike Freeland Foundation will provide scholarships and mental health counseling.
