The board also approved $450,000 for additional Vapor Wake K-9s to enhance school security. Ragsdale announced the rehiring of two Campbell High School coaches after an investigation into their nonrenewal. Other approvals included $19 million for Tapp Middle School renovations, $1.7 million for school buses, and a $439,497 video scoreboard for Walton High School. STORY 2: 15th Annual Rotary Club of North Cobb Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival The 15th annual Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival, hosted by the Rotary Club of North Cobb, takes place May 9-10 at Logan Farm Park in Acworth. This free event features BBQ competitions, including the "Lord of the Wings" on May 9 at 6 p.m. and the "People’s Choice BBQ" on May 10 at noon, with tickets available for tastings. Attendees can enjoy live music, a Kids’ Zone, a Beer Garden, and a Georgia Grown Gift Market. Reserved tables and VIP packages are available. Proceeds support the Rotary Club’s community initiatives. STORY 3: 2025 Glover Park Concert Series The 2025 Glover Park Concert Series kicks off April 25 in Marietta Square, featuring free concerts at 8 p.m., rain or shine. Performers include The Bourbon Brothers (Rat Pack tribute) on April 25, Canyonland (California Country Rock) on May 30, Smokey Jones (Classic Country) on June 27, The Stranger (Billy Joel tribute) on July 25, Soul Cartel (Funk & Soul) on Aug. 22, and Davis and the Love (Pop Hits) on Sept. 26. Presented by the Downtown Marietta Development Authority and the City of Marietta, personal tables and sectioning off areas are prohibited. Call 770.799.6810 for more info.  Break: Ingles Markets 10 STORY 4: UPDATE: Cobb County Confirms Data Breach, Notifies 10 Affected Individuals Cobb County servers were breached last month, compromising the private data of 10 individuals, including three county employees. The county detected the unauthorized access on March 21, leading to several days of server downtime for security assessments. While the exact data stolen varies by individual, the county is offering identity theft protection and credit monitoring if needed. The FBI has been notified, and the investigation is ongoing. Cobb officials emphasized their commitment to data security and have begun notifying affected individuals, with further updates expected as the situation develops. STORY 5: 30 Years, 50 Vendors, Endless Flavor: Taste of Marietta Returns Sunday The 30th annual Taste of Marietta food festival takes place Sunday, April 27, at Marietta Square, expecting over 50,000 attendees. Featuring 50 local restaurants like Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q and Piastra, the event offers dishes priced from $2 to $10. Guests can enjoy live entertainment, a kids' alley, and vendor competitions for awards like "Tastiest Taste" and "Best Comfort Food." A new VIP lounge at Boxwood Social Hall offers air-conditioning, private restrooms, live music, and an open bar for $89. Admission is free, with road closures around the Square.
