  • Leeds Lives Live Rides Again - Ep 23 - Northern Green Special 2025
    Aug 9 2025
Phil, Mariam & Ike preview all the bands on the Cloth Cat stage at this years Northern Green Gathering. 001 - Phil Cudworth - Pay Me My Money - 00:00:11 - Thur - 3.00 – 3.45 - “Phil Cudworth is a Singer-songwriter from Lancashire England. Writing and performing original songs about life, love, passion, politics, fear, joy and anything else that finds its way into his cluttered worn out brain. Trying to make sense of the short time we each have on this planet. Sung with humour and a positive outlook and the idea that none of this stuff matters that much at all really. 002 - Hullabaloo - Down With The Dead Men - 00:05:37 - Thur - 4.00 – 4.45 - Violin/guitar driven folk-pop-rock duo, with an Eastern European twist! 003 - Marinduque - Edges (Live Session) - 00:08:15 - Thur - 5.05 – 5.50 - Marinduque is a four-piece folk rock band that fronted by Clarke Lear and supported by Jonny Winter, Rebecca Hall and George Borg. Each song carries a story, reminiscence or feeling our lives, ranging from lamenting the socioeconomic decline of your hometown, the vulnerability of being queer back home, or watching the same Adam Sandler film on repeat during a ferry ride. 004 - Tarantula Handsome - Black Phillip - 00:16:05 - Thur - 6.10 – 6.55 - Tarantula Handsome are Leeds’ finest exponents of high-camp Heavy Glam. Drawing inspiration from schlock-horror B-movies, they pitch a sound that sits somewhere between Killing Joke and T-Rex, but they could never be accused of taking themselves too seriously! 005 - Victory Samosa - Built Like A Runner - 00:19:40 - Thur - 7.20 – 8.10 - Victory Samosa are a three piece rock and roll band from York consisting of Will Evans, Ed Sutherland and Louis Edge. The band formed in York in December 2022 and immediately set about making a name for themselves around the city, building a dedicated following by playing shows at local venues like The Crescent and The Fulford Arms as well as The Cavern Club in Liverpool and Beatherder Festival. The band have also been mentioned on BBC Radio 6 Music with Huw Stephens declaring; “Great Name”! The band span multiple genres throughout their energetic performances to form a satisfying mix of memorable pop hooks with an emphasis on tightly honed writing and harmonies. Merging classic and contemporary influences including Talking Heads, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Arctic Monkeys and Blossoms, the band is known for their high-energy live shows and catchy songs that have already become firm favourites on the York music scene. 006 - Cathode Ray And The Test Card Babies - Fireman Sam - 00:30:15 - Thur - 8.35 – 9.35 - We play theme music from popular and not so popular TV programmes we remember being cool. 007 - Brokli - Let Me Be Your Driver - 00:31:13 - Thur - 10.00 – 11.00 - “Brokli crafts uplifting disco and spiritual funk. Through sound, breath, and rhythm, alongside his magical dog Bernardo they have refined an interactive and truly transformative dance experience. Expect deep, flowing funk, with the magic of Earth, Wind & Fire, disco-infused grooves, and moments of guided breathwork. The team deliver empowering words throughout the set, and magical music with an 80s vibe, weaving wisdom love and playfulness into the performance. Fresh from Hope Festival and Medicine Festival (2023 & 2024), Brokli brings a unique fusion of sound healing, movement, and cosmic celebration to Northern Green Festival. https://brokli.co.uk/ 008 - Peter & Jules - TITLE UNKNOWN - 00:40:21 - Fri - 2.00 – 2.40 - We’re an Indian instrument duo who reside on the edge of the Calder Valley and the Rochdale Valley respectively, and we play covers and original tunes on sitar and tabla drums. We also have scope to venture into a fusion of Indian folk music, electronica, dance, and British folk music. 010 - The Sex Cripples - Frankenpussy - 00:41:59 - Fri - 4.00 – 4.45 - A parlour punk three-piece pop combo with two members from York – Kaitlin and Emily are multi-instrumentalists that cross musical genres to produce something that doesn’t sound entirely unlike music. Come for the split second cabaret, stay for the psychodrama and get a spicy odour for your third nostril. https://thesexcripples.co.uk 011 - Sunflower Thieves - Say The Word - 00:48:15 - Fri - 5.05 – 5.50 Childhood friends, Leeds-based pop-folk band Sunflower Thieves are a strong soulful sisterhood nurturing a unique sound, through ethereal vocal harmonies and honest lyrics to sooth the mind.
