  • Exonerated: Anthony Legion, Spent 19 Years Behind Bars For A Murder He Did Not Commit

    Anthony Legion spent 19 years behind bars for a murder he did not commit in Detroit, Michigan in 2001. Mr. Legion was convicted due to a jailhouse informant who later told investigators that the police said if he made a statement against Anthony and his co-defendant, his sentence for another crime would be reduced. Mr. Legion was released from prison in February 2020, and later exonerated on October 1, 2020.

  • Exonerated: Lee Harris, Spent Over 33 Years Behind Bars For A Crime He Did Not Commit

    Exoneree, Lee Harris spent over 33 years behind bars for a murder he did not commit in 1992 in Chicago. Mr. Harris was friends with police officers who manipulated Lee to become an informant. The police fed Lee to make statements on the crime and his story changed as the investigation moved along. When the police couldn’t charge who they believed committed the crime, they turned on Lee. Mr. Lee was released on March 16, 2023 after his attorney found the main witness who recanted and said the police told her to blame the crime on Lee.

  • Exonerated: Arlando Jones, Arrested at 16 & Spent Over 37 Years Behind Bars For A Murder He Did Not Commit

    Exoneree, Arlando “Tray” Jones, spent over 37 years behind bars for a murder he did not commit in Baltimore in 1985, when he was just 16 years old. Mr. Jones’ father was shot and killed by police when Tray was 18 months old, leading to his mother’s struggles with alcoholism. With nowhere to go, Mr. Jones went to the streets and was looked after by drug dealers. The police knew Mr. Jones was not the murderer in this crime but had a witness claimed she saw him commit the crime. This witness would immediately recant, but Mr. Jones was convicted and sentenced to life plus 20 years. He was released in 2022 thanks to the Juvenile Restoration Act.

    Exoneree, Anthony Kyles spent 27 years behind bars for 4 murders and arson he did not commit in Michigan in 1995. The main witness in the case said Anthony ignited the fire in order to get a lighter sentence in another crime. Kyles was exonerated in September 2022 thanks to a fire dynamics analyst who determined that the fire was ignited because of a faulty space heater.

    Exoneree Leon Benson spent 25 years behind bars for a murder he did not commit in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1998. He was in solitary confinement for 10 years straight. The police suppressed evidence that showed another man was the killer in the case. He was exonerated March 9, 2023.
