In this week's episode, I begin looking at several influential pastors at the time of the founding of the United States. These men were known as the Black Robed Regiment who, through their teaching and preaching, helped solidify and give a moral defense of the Declaration of Independence and subsequent conflict with Great Britain. The first pastor that I consider is Reverend Samuel Langdon, specifically two of his most well known sermons as well as his private letter to George Washington.

In this episode, we give a biblical response to Kirk Cameron’s defense of annihilationism (conditional immortality) the view that the wicked are destroyed and cease to exist rather than experiencing eternal conscious punishment. This is not a personal attack. Kirk Cameron seeks to defend God’s goodness, but sincerity does not determine truth, Scripture does. The real question is not what feels more loving, but what Jesus and the apostles actually taught about hell. We examine key passages such as Matthew 25:46, Matthew 10:28, and Revelation 14:11; 20:10 (NASB 95) to show why “destroy” (apollymi) does not mean annihilation and why Scripture teaches conscious, ongoing, eternal punishment. Jesus says, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” In Episode 9 of Sanctify Christ as Lord, we walk slowly through Matthew 5:4 and confront a truth our culture often avoids: grief is not a failure of faith. Mourning flows out of poverty of spirit and names the brokenness of a world that is not the way it was meant to be, while still trusting the character of God.
