Hope House exists to provide a home for children between the ages of ten (10) and eighteen (18) (and then those youth who turn eighteen prior to or during their senior year in High School) who are emotionally impaired, developmentally disabled, and/or come from disrupted adoptions or dysfunctional families.

Hope House serves children from all areas of the United States, although the vast majority, come from the western United States. Children from other countries may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Hope House provides a home for those young people who may have “fallen through the cracks” of other governmental and/or private agencies.

JEMfriends

Aging-out youth face tremendous adversities, and many of them personally
experience the reality of these devastating hardships.

When faced with such challenges, aged-out youth need a supportive environment
to help them take steps towards independence.

Liberty (Barrett) Thompson – Founder, Executive Director

Liberty grew up in the Boise, Idaho, area as the third of seven siblings. From a young age, she demonstrated a concern for the orphans and forgotten and pursued friendships with those overlooked by others. In 2008, Liberty founded JEMfriends with the vision that each youth aging out of foster care would have opportunities to flourish in a society that understands their adversity and supports them in becoming loving adults. Currently, Liberty serves as the Executive Director for JEMfriends, leading several programs that support aged out youth and increasing awareness about the needs of these youth in the community. She also engages many youth in the community through personal mentoring and coaching. She is enthusiastic, motivated, and creative in her leadership of the JEMfriends community. Her life goal is to passionately serve others as Jesus did and to love without overlooking anyone. She enjoys spending time with her husband Daniel and daughter, Jaynah

Alexis Flores – Community Engagement Coordinator

Alexis was born and raised in Texas and moved to Idaho when she was a freshman in high school. She graduated college in Salem, Oregon, with a degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Trauma and Addictions and Children and Family. Alexis loves to spend time with friends and family, go for drives listening to music way too loudly, meeting others for coffee to share the joys and struggles of life, and being in the sun outside whenever she can! Alexis is excited to be part of the JEMfriends team because of how JEMfriends serves to be a support and friend to those who need it. She firmly believes that everyone needs one person in their life who makes them feel seen, heard, cared for, and worthy of love. Alexis believes anyone has the ability to make a difference in their community and is passionate about getting people involved. She has personally experienced the change in her life through relationships and desires to be a JEMfriend wherever she can!

After pastoring for 25 years, God opened my eyes to the plight of foster kids through my daughter, Melissa. Her devotion to this under-served population helped me to see how vulnerable they can be. Over time, it became clear to me and my wife, Debbie, that modern-day foster children are the orphans God calls us to care for (James 1:27).

Our daughter, Jenna, and her husband, David were doing just that by fostering kids in their home. As we entered the foster care world with them, we began to grasp how challenging life can be like for foster kids — especially foster teens; how trauma and broken promises make many of these young people wonder if they are worthy of love, or anything at all. Is it any wonder that so many of these beautiful, image-bearers of God struggle mightily as adults?

This fact broke our hearts and compelled us to act. Inspire Idaho allows us to engage young people experiencing foster care to affirm their value, offer them hope, and equip them to flourish; to meet them where they are, discover who they want to be, and help them to build a roadmap to get there. We are honored to serve alongside our adult children and all who share our vision to change lives and transform generations, one life, one relationship at a time.

In the summer of 2020, T.J. and Leah felt a clear call from God to plant a life-giving church in the Treasure Valley of Idaho - Refresh church launched in 2021 and has been going strong ever since.

Pastor T.J. is a gifted teacher and communicator and has a particular bent on making the bible approachable to everyday life and to see others find freedom and passion in their lives. In their free time, T.J. and Leah like spending time outdoors, camping, fishing, and enjoying great food with their four children Mckenna, Addison, Cecelia, and Layton.
