 Cheer Incorporated exposes the institutional sex abuse scandal unearthed by Rockstar Cheer gym owner Scott Foster’s suicide in late August 2022. As more information surfaced it became apparent that Foster, as well as other coaches, would soon be facing public allegations of sexual abuse of minors. What wasn’t clear initially was that the misbehavior extends to the corporate entities and governing bodies responsible for ensuring the safety of Cheer athletes, and that they would soon be facing allegations of covering up years of sexual abuse to fatten up their bottom lines. This is such an important topic about the systemic abuse of young girls. My 13 year old daughter is a passionate elite cheerleader from Charleston SC so this story hits hard. But knowledge is power and the most important power we have as parents is to protect our children. While for the most part I trust my child’s program - it does raise an important issue for me which is the normalized protocol at most gyms which are closed practices- where parents are strictly forbidden to observe practices. To me personally, closed practices send a wrong message to our children by stripping away the transparency of coaching and promoting a team culture of secretiveness.

Great work, this needs the best work to resolve. I now believe all organized groups where adults are given this level of trust/freedom with kids needs some type of review long term.
