Chapter 17

On the glacier, the Creature demands a female companion. Victor refuses in anger, but the Creature alternates between rage and reason, pleading for sympathy and promising exile. Moved and fearful, Victor finally consents on the condition the pair abandon human society. The Creature departs swiftly across the ice. Victor descends the mountain in torment, returns to Geneva in a haunted state, and resolves to undertake the abhorrent task for his family’s sake.
