  • Blessed are the Peacemakers
    Nov 11 2024

It's true, the current spiritual climate can feel like a battleground of beliefs. The key is remembering that differing opinions don't have to mean division. Civil discourse and mutual respect are essential. It's okay to agree to disagree while maintaining relationships.

First Response Chaplaincy in our post-election communities is about being a steady, compassionate presence that bridges divides and promotes healing. A Chaplain’s role is crucial in helping First Responders and communities navigate these times with grace and understanding.

  • 006 - The Chaplain and Peer Support
    Oct 30 2024

We are entering into the holiday season where so much focus is put on celebrating together as a family. Often the First Responder’s job doesn’t permit that to happen. On top of duty responsibilities, let’s add stress and trauma to the “soup”.

One thing we want to do as Chaplains is to work hand in hand with our department’s peer support team. This can be a difficult task to accomplish. Peer Support is often an additional duty, and Chaplains are considered “outsiders” and volunteers who may or may not be active at all in the department. Because most Chaplains are not sworn, building trust with the First Responders will literally take years to accomplish.

Take a listen to gain insight on how Chaplains and Peer Support Teams can co-labor together.

With the arrival of October and the festivities of Halloween, it's an opportune time to reflect on the holiday's spiritual aspects. As first response Chaplains, this is a moment to consider how we can provide spiritual support to the First Responders we serve during this season.

Originating around the 9th century as a Celtic festival celebrating Samhain (Samhain is the Druid god of death). People would open up cemeteries, light bonfires, make sacrifices, and wear costumes to scare off any ghosts.

How has "Samhain" evolved into what is celebrated today? What is the spiritual nature of Halloween today? What affect does this "holiday" have on First Responders"? Has this "holiday" been successfully "Christianized"? Join us and gain a little insight into the history of Halloween!
