Matthew Lloyd is the leading goalkicker in the history of the Essendon football club. 926 goals from 270 games, twice he kicked a century of goals. In the all-conquering Premiership year of 2000, and then followed it up in 2001.

Lloyd made the decision to retire at the end of the 2009 season, leaving the game 74 goals short of the magical 1,000 - But with no regrets.
