Are we actually using KPIs, or merely tracking them? That’s the question one of the CEOs I work with asked me recently. As a bestselling author featured on BBC TV, Times Square and having worked with over 60 CEOs, here’s my answer.
Too many CEOs review dashboards but rarely change direction. Real growth happens when KPIs become decision triggers. If one channel underperforms and another outperforms, shift budget fast. If one message converts better, double down. Data is not a report card. It is a steering wheel.
At the $1M to $5M stage, agility beats perfection. The CEOs who win treat KPIs as real-time signals and iterate weekly, not quarterly. So use KPIs to pivot with purpose.
