  • How was literature enjoyed during the Byzantine Empire? How were emotions portrayed / made sense of in Byzantium? And what is it like to read autobiographical text from 1000 years ago? Assistant Professor Aglae Pizzone from the Danish Institute for Advanced Study and the Centre of Medieval Studies at the University of Southern Denmark joins podcast host, Michael Magee for a chat about life and literature in Byzantium.


    Aglae Pizzone is a Byzantinist with a training in classics. In her research she focuses on cultural history and history of the ideas. She has worked on conceptualizations of fiction and imagination from Graeco-Roman to Medieval times as well as on the history of emotions in Byzantium.
