Sims played college football for the University of Oklahoma, where he was a two-time consensus All-American, won the Walter camp award in 1979 and won the Heisman Trophy in 1978. Sims nearly won the Heisman the following season finishing in second place to USC’s Charlie White. Sims was the first overall pick in the 1980 NFL Draft, and played professionally for the NFL's Detroit Lions. Sims was the last Oklahoma player taken Number 1 overall in the NFL Draft until quarterback Sam Bradford was taken first in the 2010 NFL Draft. Sims spent five seasons in the NFL, making 3 pro bowls and earning rookie of the year honors before exiting the NFL due to a career-ending knee injury. Billy currently owns and operates his own BBQ business which spans 44 locations in Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Michigan, Wisconsin, Colorado, and Iowa.
