We address the first half of Daniel Five. We lead the podcast into a cliffhanger, the actual interpretation of the writing on the wall because we want to focus on two things. First the historical context that leads up to this moment and second, the most important part of this discussion, the difference between blind ignorance and active defiance. We've seen how God has dealt with Nebuchadnezzar, patiently and finally humbling him and getting to recognize the God of Israel as supreme ... and to act in accordance to that recognition with respect and reference. Belshazzar knows this history, steps up and flips the proverbial finger at it. What Belshazzar experiences is raw fright at God's response to this active defiance - instant and active judgement.
