Black Lives Matter: Living with guarded hope

  • Resumen

  • Season 3, Episode 6: Maurice Jelks grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. But despite living in a predominately black neighborhood and being bused to a school with mostly white kids, Maurice didn't see color. He was full of hope and didn't believe the chatter from some family members, who called white people "blue-eyed devils." But that doesn't mean Maurice Jelks never experienced discrimination and hate because of the color of his skin. That doesn't mean that Maurice Jelks didn't cry when George Floyd was killed. That doesn't mean that Maurice Jelks isn't forced to have the hard conversations with his two sons about a problem that continues to plague our country. The hope is still there, but now it's a little more guarded. This is a powerful episode to bring Season 3 of "Sixes" to an end. #amplifyblackvoices
