On Thursday, the Commerce Department announced that U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) shrank by an inflation and seasonally adjusted rate of 0.9%—the second consecutive quarter of GDP decline, meeting the traditional definition of a recession. However, officials within President Biden’s White House are now attempting to redefine the term "recession," while others boldly deny the economy is struggling at all.
