When you are breaking bad, you hurt others. When you are breaking good, you hurt yourself. Burnout, isolation, total loss of personhood, depression, addiction—all are symptoms of breaking yourself to be good—orienting your entire existence around the never-ending work of doing good, producing good, and proving you are good. And the worst part is, no one knows. Not even you. That's because you are performing precisely as expected. In fact, the more you break yourself, the better you look on the outside. You might even get big promotions, high praises, and gold stars. But it will cost you. At best, you will settle for a beige, boring, cardboard-tasting life. At worst, you won't even have one. Hosted by speaker, attorney, and author of the best-selling memoir BREAKING GOOD: From Good Girl to Good Girl Gone, Beth Stanfield turns the tables on the "Good Girl" paradigm. She explores the quantum level transformation that occurs when good is gone and invites the listener into a breathtaking future painted by the colors of truth, freedom, magic, and creativity. Good is no longer breaking us. We are breaking good. • 9 THINGS I KNOW: How Instagram Starting Running My Life and the 8 Other Things Getting me Unstuck and Moving in Business
    Nov 23 2024

2 years ago Instagram was no more than a public, digital photo album. Then, I quit corporate, started a business with a big concept and wider audience reach, and suddenly Instagram was running my life, dictating my emotions, and determining my self worth! WHAT??? The need to put Instagram back in its rightful place is one of the 9 Things I know.

These are the 9 THINGS I meditated upon, wrote down, and spoke out loud in this episode in order to do 3 things:

    1) release their hold on my psyche; 2) regain my power over these areas; and 3) break the pattern keeping me stuck, confused, and frustrated as a new entrepreneur.

**Regardless of whether you are an entrepreneur or business owner, if you are trying to do something new, something different, or build something, THIS EPISODE IS FOR YOU!!!!!**

    HERE ARE THE 9 THINGS:

    1. JUST MOVE. Do it. Say it. Write it. . . . Say it. Do it. Write it. . . . KEEP MOVING. The right answer is action. The wrong answer is inaction.
    2. STOP PLANNING, REFINING, and DOING PRELIMINARIES. I could make a whole career out of planning for the thing, but never doing the thing. Tweaking, proofing, refining, editing . . . but never offering, selling, or putting myself out there. This is not a sustainable business model. Being stuck in the preliminaries is a business death sentence. It's time to address it head on.
    3. IMPERFECTION IS NOT A DISQUALIFIER. In fact, it is the opposite. IMPERFECTION IS MY ONLY QUALIFIER. Moving in my messy, imperfect, incomplete humanness is the ONLY WAY IN. The ONLY WAY FORWARD. Perfection keeps me locked out because I am waiting on, preparing for, agitating myself about, something that DOES NOT EXIST. Case in point. This podcast was minimally edited. I did not stop and rephrase anything. I let the tape roll . . .
    4. INSTAGRAM IS AN APP. Allowing Instagram to dictate my emotions, self-worth, sense of success or lack thereof (especially when viewed by short-term numbers, reactions, and engagement) is BONKERS. Instagram is a piece of software that has a place in business, but if I continue to allow it too much power over my mind, emotions, and actions, it is using me and it must the other way around. I either USE Instagram or not at all.
    5. STOP EVALUATING EVERYTHING IN THE SHORT TERM. This is a small-minded, narrowly-focused, and debilitating way to do business. I have to build a foundation. Make a plan. Be consistent. Then put my head down and grind for THREE YEARS. At the end of those three years, I will then allow myself to look up and see how we're doing. I even put this date on my calendar.
    6. SUCCESS IS ACHIEVABLE. It is not a complex mystery, a special club I haven't been invited to, a secret language I cannot decipher. Success is not the formidable, mystical mountain I have made it into. If I follow the 9 things laid out here, I'll get there. I'll find it. I will figure it out.
    7. I DON'T HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING MYSELF. Spending a fortune of my own billable and creative time is not wise or sustainable. I need to break my addiction to doing things myself. Chances are when I am struggling to figure out something, there is someone else out there who knows how to do it, and I can call them, and pay them every penny they are worth to come and help me. I just need to ask for help. I need to remember I CAN ask for help. Help is allowed.
    8. APPLY PRESSURE. This might be the actual key to making the rest of this list real. Set a date, tell people who will keep you accountable, sell tickets, put some money down on the venue. Pull the trigger. Make the...
