In her first year of teaching, while prepping a detailed plan for a sub, chaos erupted when a classroom rat named Wiggly got stuck in the cage after a student fed it a Cheez-It — and in the struggle, its eye popped out. She freed the rat, the sub muttered “they don’t pay me enough,” and the principal helped restore order with a laugh that sometimes, real shit happens.
