By accepting the existence of negative thoughts and choosing not to act on them, they're losing their power and increasingly being replaced by positive thoughts including gratitude. This has been a long process for me. For many years, my attention was primarily focused on what I saw as the "short comings" in my life. I was focused on trying to solve what I perceived as the problems in my life. Now, increasingly, I find myself focusing on what I'm grateful for and happy about in my life.
I'm happy about this progress for many reasons. One of which is I know what I focus on grows in my world. Having an increasingly positive focus creates a better and better world for me.
So many of our thoughts are not conscious. I offer thought coaching to help clients accept both their conscious and previously unconscious thoughts as well as the freedom to chose which thoughts to act on.
