Basics of Sikhi Podcast is a relaxed talk show about Sikhism (Sikhi) and topics related. Most discussions and learning about Sikhi take place in a formal setting like a Gurdwara (Sikh temple), by way of Punjabi speaking Parchariks (educators) speaking to the congregation. In recent years, many educators have taken to online platforms such as YouTube & Facebook to inspire, educate and spread the message of Sikhi to the world, in English. Our successful and popular YouTube channel, Basics of Sikhi (be sure to subscribe!) has been hugely appreciated as a new, interactive and modern way of learning about Sikhi, especially by the younger generation, some of which who cannot speak or understand Punjabi so much. In a similar way, this Podcast, hosted by Sukhdeep Singh (Sikh educator at Basics of Sikhi) and Karanveer Singh (Sikh volunteer), is continuing that innovation by bringing learning about Sikhi to an informal and relaxed platform in the form of this talk show podcast. Sukhdeep & Karanveer will invite different guests to the Podcast to discuss various topics directly and indirectly related to Sikhi e.g. Sikh history, traditions, fitness, nutrition, mental health, music and the list goes on!... • [NEW] Ex-Muslim Was Lost Until She Found Sikhi
    May 27 2025

From Islam to Sikhi: Haneet Kaur’s Powerful Journey of Faith, Healing & Identity!

In this deeply moving episode, we sit down with Haneet Kaur, who shares her powerful story of leaving Islam and embracing Sikhism (Sikhi). Raised in a traditional Muslim Bengali family, Haneet struggled with feelings of disconnection, depression, and fear of judgement when questioning her faith.

Everything changed when her husband began coming closer to Sikh teachings, and she first heard the Naam Simran he was listening to. The peace and spiritual connection she felt was unlike anything she had ever experienced in Islam — and it marked the beginning of her journey into Sikhi.

In this podcast, Haneet bravely opens up about:

🔹 Her struggles growing up in Islam and not feeling spiritually fulfilled

🔹 Facing anxiety, depression, and fear of asking questions about her Muslim upbringing

🔹 Her first emotional experience with Naam Simran and the peace she found in Sikhism

🔹 Telling her family she had converted from Islam to Sikhi

🔹 Taking Amrit and wearing the Dastaar proudly as a Sikh woman

🔹 Her experience of the Anand Karaj, the Sikh marriage ceremony, and how it compared to her past Muslim wedding

🔹 The deep love she has developed for Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the Khalsa way of life

This is a story of courage, transformation, and spiritual awakening — for anyone questioning their path or seeking truth beyond labels. Whether you're exploring Sikhi, coming from a Muslim background, or simply love hearing powerful journeys of faith, this conversation is not to be missed.
