Get to know Robert Sims, the new CEO of Brattleboro Savings and Loan. Originally from Tennessee and having a history of working in and loving Vermont, Robert also found BS&L to strike a chord with his own ethics, as it is one of the only B-Corp banks in the country. He brings a warm and enthusiastic energy to his work and to the community, and has interesting stories to share.

The Latchis Theatre has been a Brattleboro icon since it was erected on Main Street as a completely fireproof hotel, theatre, restaurant, and ballroom in 1938. Join BCTV Director Johnny Gifford as he chats with recently hired Theatre Manager Luis Negron, who tells us about his mission to bring more local, live events to the historic venue.

Project Feed the Thousands was started in 1994 by Larry Smith, formerly of WTSA radio, and Entergy Vermont Yankee (Ret.) and George Haynes, formerly of the Brattleboro Savings & Loan (Ret.). Their initial goal was to fill a single tractor trailer with food for people in Brattleboro area. Over the years, the need has grown. Project Feed has also grown in size and scope. Today, Project Feed the Thousands collects multiple tractor trailers’ worth of food and personal care items for thousands of people in and around six communities across southeastern Vermont and southwestern, NH.

BCTV Executive Director Johnny Gifford interviews Laura Lawson Tucker of Theatre Adventure, along with several members of the Theatre Adventure Traveling Troupe.

This Fall, the Thursday Troupe will be producing an adaptation of the classic folktale Stone Soup. This tale is about a community that confronts barriers and difficulties and discovers that by uniting, they are able to overcome them. Thursday Troupe actors will be featured playing characters who express and then address such barriers. Characters, monologues, on-stage working together, leadership opportunities, and more will be the centerpiece of the show.

In a recent action to help fight for clean water standards in Vermont and New Hampshire, five nonprofits filed for an appeal of the Clean Water Act’s Water Quality Certification in order to prevent VT and NH from issuing licenses to hydropower facilities allowing for discharge into public waters.

SYNC – Supporting Young Neurodiverse Children and Caregivers – is a community-driven initiative designed for families and caregivers of children age 0–5 years old on the Autism Spectrum (or suspected of). Hosted by The Root Social Justice Center in collaboration with Early Education Services, Early Childhood Special Education of Windham Southeast Supervisory Union and Springfield Area Parent Child Center, SYNC provides tailored support to help you navigate the challenges and celebrate the triumphs of raising a child with ASD in Windham County.

Staff and volunteers from the Center for Solace (fka Brattleboro Area Hospice) joined BCTV Executive Director Johnny Gifford in the studio to talk about their services, programs, and an upcoming event at the Brooks Memorial Library on April 16th. The event will mainly focus on their Advance Directive Program, which is a process of creating a written healthcare plan that tells others what you would want if you couldn’t tell them yourself.
