I can still praise all night at a revival,

Praising the good Lord like I’m in a recital;

I can still pray a prayer that leads you tears,

Praying in Spirit and Truth,

Scriptures here and there and a drop appears.

But as I partake in communion,

Lord, the Spirit consumes the human;

Breaking up the bread unleavened and blessing it

Like You did and called it Your Blood, so I’m professing it;

Juice like wine with lips pressed against a cup,

Giving thanks for grace cleansing my sins in Your Blood;

And I remember how mercy was proven,

As I partake in communion;

As I partake in communion,

Communion, Communion...

As I take communion.

I can still evangelize on the corner of streets,

Evangelizing purpose and what favor means to me;

I can still study the scriptures with inmates in prisons,

Studying to show myself approved,

With weekenders, lifers, and whoever speaks and listens.

But as I partake in communion,

Lord, the Spirit consumes the human;

Breaking up the bread unleavened and blessing it

Like You did and called it Your body, so I’m professing it;

Juice like wine with lips pressed against a cup,

Giving thanks for grace cleansing my sins in Your Blood;

And I remember how mercy was proven,

As I partake in communion;

As I partake in communion,

Communion, Communion...

As I take communion.

AS I PARTAKE IN COMMUNION explores the difference between religious performance and spiritual intimacy. It’s built on a "Performative vs. Personal" structure that highlights how Official 1SP views their faith.

1. The Contrast of "Doing" vs. "Being"

The stanzas follow a repetitive pattern:

Stanzas 1 & 3 (The Work):

Official 1SP lists outward religious activities—praising at revivals, praying, evangelizing, and prison ministry. These are active, public, and involve "skill" (comparing a prayer to a "recital").

Stanzas 2 & 4 (The Connection):

These serve as the chorus. They shift from the busy "streets" and "prisons" to the quiet, internal moment of the Eucharist.

2. "The Spirit Consumes the Human"

This is the Official 1SP's emotional core. It suggests that while Official 1SP can perform rituals (preaching, studying), it is only during Communion that their ego or "human" self fades away. It’s a transition from acting for God to being filled by God.

3. Sensory Imagery

AS I PARTAKE IN COMMUNION uses physical details to ground the spiritual experience:

Touch/Action:

"Breaking up the bread," "lips pressed against a cup."

Fluidity:

The mentions of "tears," "juice," and "blood" emphasize a cleansing or washing away of the "human" to make room for the "Spirit."

4. Tone and Theme

The tone is one of humility. By admitting they can "pray a prayer that leads to tears" (a sign of religious talent), Official 1SP acknowledges the danger of pride in ministry. Communion acts as the "great equalizer"—a moment where Official 1SP is no longer a teacher or a leader, but simply a recipient of "grace" and "mercy."

The Bottom Line:

AS I PARTAKE IN COMMUNION suggests that external ministry is good, but the "Communion"—the direct, quiet union with the Divine—is where the true transformation happens.
