Andrew Abdo says no guarantee Magic Round will stay in Brisbane beyond 2027

  • Resumen

  • The greatest weekend on the NRL calendar is upon us.

Magic Round kicks off tonight with Women’s State of Origin, the Brisbane Broncos will take on Penrith on Sunday afternoon, followed by the Storm and the three other Queensland teams will also be in action.

It is estimated 200,000 people will visit the River City for Magic Round and over 6 million will watch on TV.

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "Three years is a long time and we want to continue to build and make Magic Round even more special."

"Keep adding things, keep breaking records and I must be honest, the Queensland Government has been terrific to deal with."

"They believed in us right in the beginning, this was just an idea in 2017, they headed the launch in 2019 and they've been terrific partners and we will continue to work and keep building to 2027," Andrew Abdo said.

"And then when the time's right, we'll have a conversation around where Magic Round goes afterwards."

"Obviously if we keep growing it like we are now, then this is a terrific place."

"People do enjoy travelling to see games at Suncorp Stadium."

"So we don't take that for granted, but obviously nothing is locked in beyond 2027," Mr Abdo continued.
