In this episode, we sit down with Amisa Rashid, the founder and executive director of Nivishe Foundation, a youth and women-led organization based in Kibra, Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 2019, Nivishe is dedicated to breaking the stigma around mental health and raising awareness about mental illnesses at the grassroots level, particularly in marginalized communities and informal settlements.

Nivishe Foundation works to build community resilience by implementing community-based mental health interventions and trauma-informed programming. Through these initiatives, Nivishe empowers women, girls, and other vulnerable individuals, helping them cope with the mental health challenges they face due to poverty, stigma, and social exclusion. Amisa will discuss how Nivishe's work in mental health awareness and social cohesion is having a transformative impact in Kibra and surrounding low-income areas.

In this conversation, we'll explore the importance of promoting mental health education, breaking down mental health stigma, and using trauma-informed care as a tool for building stronger, more resilient communities. Amisa will also share the challenges the organization faces, how they've overcome them, and the future vision for scaling the impact of their work.
