In this episode, Shantanell shares a powerful contrast between two biblical parents—Jabez’s mother and Rachel—who named their children from a place of deep pain. Unlike Abraham and Hannah, who parented from promise, these women allowed their trauma to define their legacy. Shantanell dives into how our own unhealed wounds can shape how we raise, speak to, and lead others—and why it’s vital to break that cycle. Just because pain is part of your story doesn’t mean it should parent your future.

In this episode, Shantanell presents a framework for raising children with the promises of God in mind, rather than allowing past trauma to dictate how we parent. She draws on biblical examples, specifically Abraham and Hannah, to illustrate how these parents focused on God’s promises when raising their children, despite their personal struggles.

For instance, Abraham trusted in God’s promise that he would become the father of many nations, despite his age and the challenges he faced. His faith in God’s word helped shape the way he raised his son Isaac, prioritizing God’s plan over his own doubts or fears.

Similarly, Hannah, who experienced the deep pain of infertility, chose to place her trust in God’s promise. Rather than allowing her trauma to control her, she prayed fervently and dedicated her son Samuel to the Lord. Hannah’s story highlights how a parent's faith in God's promises can guide their approach to parenting, even in the face of personal heartache.
