Aliza Sherman, a 53-year-old in-vitro fertilization nurse and mother of four, was stabbed 11 times March 24, 2013, in downtown Cleveland. She died later that day, and a decade later, her murder remains unsolved. News accounts of her brutal murder in broad daylight often describe Aliza Sherman in a sentence or two. But from those few short lines, you can't begin to understand the depths of who she was or what she meant to so many. Hosted by Cleveland journalists Mike Butz and Sara Shookman, this podcast will introduce you to Aliza, update you on her case, and explore the ways she made — and continues to make — a difference in people's lives.

    May 13 2025

The attorney trusted to advocate for Aliza Sherman during her contested divorce trial is now –12 years later – charged with her murder.

Gregory Moore, 51, of Sagamore Hills, was indicted on May 2 on 10 criminal counts in the death of Sherman on March 24, 2013. Sherman, a 53-year-old in-vitro fertilization nurse and mother of four, was stabbed 11 times outside the Stafford Law Company in downtown Cleveland, where Moore worked, and she was scheduled to meet with him that Sunday night. She died later that day.

This special episode of "Aliza: Her Story" explores this latest update in the 12-year cold case ahead of Moore's extradition hearing on May 14 in Texas and scheduled arraignment on May 16 at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center.

  • 4: System failures and inspiring change
    Aug 8 2023

What does justice for Aliza Sherman look like in 2023? It includes convicting her killer, of course, but 10 years later, it also means inspiring change — in Aliza's honor — to improve systems that failed her and continue to fail other victims of violence. In this episode, co-hosts Mike Butz and Sara Shookman examine the problems and possible solutions, and they share how the Aliza Sherman Fund at Cleveland Clinic will ensure Aliza's legacy is one of healing and helping those in need.
