Episode 8 — When the Threat Is Internal
📖 Nehemiah 5
Not every threat to God’s work comes from the outside.
Sometimes the greatest danger is within the community itself.
While the wall of Jerusalem was being rebuilt, a crisis emerged among the people. The wealthy were exploiting the poor, families were losing their land, and some were even forced to sell their children into servitude.
The mission was moving forward—but the integrity of the community was breaking down.
Nehemiah understood something every leader must learn:
Alignment requires integrity.
He confronted the injustice directly, calling the leaders to repentance and restoring what had been taken. But he also modeled a different kind of leadership.
Instead of using his position for personal gain, Nehemiah refused the governor’s allowance and used his own resources to serve the people.
Why?
“Because of the fear of God.” (Nehemiah 5:15)God’s work cannot be sustained where exploitation is tolerated.
True leadership protects the people.
True integrity restores trust.
And true alignment preserves unity.
Because sometimes the most important battles are not against enemies outside the walls…
They are fought within the heart of the community.
