Algoma Steel to lay off 1,000 workers in face of U.S. tariffs

Algoma Steel has issued 1,000 layoff notices to workers in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario citing the impact of U.S. tariffs on the Canadian steel industry, despite hundreds of millions of dollars in government support.
