Alberta separatism is taking on a new and contentious twist this week after reports that individuals linked to an Alberta separatist movement met with U.S. officials in Washington, B.C. Vancouver city council has made a rare and controversial move: approving a residential tower on land long protected for industrial use, against the advice of its own planning staff. Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree says he doesn't foresee logistical challenges in gathering up banned firearms through a federal buyback program, despite the refusal of several provinces and police forces to help.
