    Mat-Su Borough officials said the borough “must do better” after 25 dogs were found dead on a Caswell Lakes property on Wednesday, announcing an independent review of borough actions while Alaska State Troopers investigate possible animal cruelty.

    The Anchorage School District has released new numbers of positions which will be cut next school year now that voters appear to have rejected Proposition 9, a special property tax levy for the district which was projected to raise roughly $12 million.

    The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz has led to a decrease in oil prices nationally, but Alaska’s senior senator said the state faces a different situation that could threaten rural communities.
