    Sep 22 2025

    We're finally here: After School.
On this podcast, other than mostly nonsense and inappropriate jokes, we cover homeschool, with a focus on older HS, and also we follow a homeschool student out there, into the real world, to see what happens After School.
Well, she took her first real steps into the "Real World" this summer, and they were huge steps.
We're breaking up the summer review into a few eps.
In this first one, we talk about her trip to Lucca, Italy for a one month dance intensive class for adults. It was aweseme.
We'll be back soon for After 2: this one picking up at the final dance presentation in Lucca, and hearing about Rose's trip to Switzerland after school.

    Stay safe, y'all!

Another Chef's Table here. The OG Ep 25 was a bust because we messed up the recording. Chef went at this one alone real quick to catch up. We'll release the tapes when they release the files. smh 2025 sucks

We start with a Graduation recap. It was a blast. Great party. We talk about some homeschool Senior Year and HS tips as part of this.
Chef makes it all sad when he talks about the Faculty of the Year Award, which Smokey won.

    ReviewEd Segment
Chef talks about two movies he would never force Rose to watch, and he recommends you don't either: A Family Affair (the Lifetime one) and Woman in the Yard.

  • The Big Year
    Jul 23 2025

We got this one in the can over two months ago. Finally edited and published. It's been wild here.

Chef jumps in right away with a new segment: Chef's Table. First course: an update on the delay and what we've been doing.

    6:16
We're back into normal programming. It's a homeschool and family heavy ep. Lots of updates on what Rose is doing as a homeschool student winding up her senior year.

We've got one more ep in the can, this one a review from the graduation. Then Rose will be back in town for a few months.

    Thanks for all your support!

  • Social Studies Special Ep
    May 19 2025

We have got to stop this, but we accidentally did another helpful episode.
Luckily, to make sure we don't actually get any listeners, Chef immediately derails us with a flagrantly inappropriate joke.

    3:46
We're back on track: a helpful Social Studies segment that talks about the day of SAT taking for a homeschool kid. Previous eps have helped us register and walked through do's and don'ts of test prep, in this section we literally walk (sometimes run) through what to expect the day of.

    11:42
A second Social Studies segment. This time, we look at one aspect of education that is stress-testing the very idea of public school as we've known it for decades: AI.
We go granular here, with a story from Rose's friend who was wrongly accused of using AI to write her end of year paper, whilst her friends who actually used AI got away scot free. She had to redo her paper under 1 to 1 supervision like Hannibal Lecter while her AI using friends were already done for the year.

    18:01
Chef triples down on the tip out.
Odd Pieces Puzzles is our first. Best Puzzles Ever. Malaysian American owned. LOVE LOVE LOVE Odd Pieces. Rose chimes in with Learn SAT Math, a great Youtube test prep channel.
Got chef thinking about Goofy Chess and Chess with Durks: two more great Youtube style content producers who make amazing chess vids.

  • Hug Your Fam - Life Is Short
    Apr 29 2025

We haven't been recording much, and it's time to come clean.
Our fam was shattered a couple weeks ago, and life will never be the same. We bring y'all into our world and share what happened, both because we owe it to our fans (Schoolies? Homies? Schoolios? Ultras?) and because if there's any chance we can help you and your loved ones, to ideally prevent this from ever happening to you, then it's all worth it.

Know that whatever happens, you're loved. Stay safe y'all. Go enjoy the day. Life is short.
Ask that person out finally. Buy that eBike. Pick a flower, give it to a hottie. Love while you can.

  • Springisode 1 Tulip Pirates
    Apr 8 2025

    We're back!
Season 2 has a tighter, lighter format. It's Graduation --> Gap Year!
We kick it off in style with the first of our spring themed eps.

    11:43
    SOS Tulip Mania
We talk about the first ever economic bubble, which indluded the first futures sales, and is the source of the very word bubble in an economic sense: the Dutch Tulip Craze of 1636. Fortunes were made, more were lost, all over Tulips.

    24:15
    The Quote Game
We debut a new segment: guess the quote! Was it a Tulip Bro or a Tech Bro?

    26:51
    SOS
    Johor Boleh
The Dutch empire hits home: we talk about where the Dutch empire overlapped with our family history in Malaysia, how that empire ended, and what parallels there are to today's society. We also talk about how badass Johor is, and talk the origin stories for Melaka.

Next up: spring themed movies. Thanks for tuning in for Season 2!

  • Have a Drink
    Mar 26 2025

    2025 has hit AfterschoolEd hard.
On a light, postitive note, Rose has been good busy. She's been volunteering to teach dance at a local elementary school. It's been fantastic for them and her. But it means it's impossible to get her Rose and Chef on the same page schedule wise.
On a serious note, living in a Nazi, Fascist regime has been as nightmarish as it was predictable, and that grind is evident in Chef's behavior during this ep. He's equal parts Hunter S Thompson and Ron Burgundy.

A super sized intro has us talking about Season 1 in general, what's to come in Season 2, and it shows what it's like surviving 2025.

    ReviewEd
We finally finish Who Cooked the Last Supper!! Much like 2025, it was a wild ride.
It's a hell of a book and also a frustrating book. We're glad we read it.

We also shoehorn in some other segments, it kinda got wild. Chef took tons of edibles and drank like ten drinks during this session, so. . . . . . good luck to us all. 2025 in a nutshell.

See y'all for Season 2 soon! New format for Season 2, with shorter, quicker episodes, and more comedy, less education. It's a gap year after all.

  • The Last of the OGs
    Feb 13 2025

Season One has been a blast. Thanks for tuning in.
Big changes coming. Rose is super busy with Senior Year stuff- teaching in Billings at 7:45am sometimes.
At MontAsia, we have the lowest staffing levels ever, and we're expecting the biggest numbers ever, so Chef is strapped. He's often doing dishes until 3am.
We simply can't record and edit two hour eps anymore.
We'll do a one more big Season One Finale, and then Season Two will have new format. Stay tuned. We're really excited.

    1:30
    Oui Oui
After the shortest intro ever, bam: The Tik Tok ban. Chef and Rose bring different takes to the ban that would never be, until it was, and then immediately wasn't (?????).

We circle back to the diversity of South Korea. We're both surprised, and we both have to go.

We finish up our Holiday Binge Reviews with quite the selection. Climax fucked us both up. What a movie. There were some hits and misses after that. More feces than either of us expected.

Chef corrects the record on the French always losing, and points out that they amassed a bigger empire than the US ever did. Cue the tweets.

Getting Rose psyched for her trip to France this year Chef talks about French geography, and highlights some of the different regions of France worth a visit.

Rose walks us through the last semester of her senior year, which his head-spinningly busy.
Remember y'all, the Senior Year above all other years is the example of the progressive homeschool ideology that most of the best lessons take place outside of the home, out in the field or volunteering etc. And like Chef has been saying for years, Rose is certainly out there.

    1:27.26
    TipOut
After a brief detour into the world of professional Rock Paper Scissors, because Chef in a divergent maniac, we're back on track; Rose would have us read, and Chef would concur with a specific Carl Hiassen ammendment.

Much Love y'all. Season one has been a blast. See you for the finale!
