The Advocacy Speaks podcast begins with its pilot episode "Unmasking Conversion Therapy". Started by social work graduate students at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Advocacy Speaks aims to highlight fights for social justice through evidence based analysis of complex issues and topics. Ever important to understanding complex social problems are the lived experiences of impacted individuals. Advocacy Speaks looks to empower the voices of marginalized groups and individuals and elevate the importance of discussing policies that minimize them.

Advocacy Speaks' pilot episode "Unmasking Conversion Therapy" dives into the dangers of so-called "therapeutic" efforts to change sexual orientation and gender identity. Evidence is presented showing the harmful impacts of conversion therapy, and the recent Chiles v. Salazar Supreme Court case challenging the Colorado ban on conversion therapy for minors is discussed. The discussion is enlightened with the personal experiences of the hosts as they bring lived experience into the realm of advocacy and education.

This episode was produced by graduate social work students at UCCS as part of a public advocacy project to spread knowledge and awareness about various social justice issues.
